The Data Conversion

A leader in online sales of replacement parts for agricultural and landscaping equipment, Deals In A Pinch operates an online store with tens of thousands of available items.

The Challenge

In order to increase their sales, Deals In A Pinch was in the process of migrating their online store to Volusion (an E-commerce provider), and listing their items on eBay.

In order to import categories and items in bulk, the data must conform to the provider's specified format.  Reformatting thousands of items is not something that could be accomplished manually or by in-house staff.

The Solution

The client contacted Paisley Systems to provide a custom PHP application which would reformat manufacturer's data for use in both Volusion and eBay.  The client then provided brief examples of the data formats for each of the applications.

We then created a web-based application which allowed them to upload manufacturer's data.  Once automatically categorized and  reassembled, the client could then download the data in the proper format for use in either eBay, or Volusion.

How it works

The client connects to their new application using a web browser.  They then upload a file from the supplier which describes the items for sale.

Once the supplier data is uploaded the application will then:

• Download, covert, and resize product images
• Remove duplicate items
• Create categories automatically
• Send an email to the user when the process is complete

Once the processing is completed, the user can then return to the application and download the files they'll need.  They can then upload these files to eBay and Volusion to update their available products.
